to examine the pens found at the scene and determine whether they were used to forge the bank note
i did not report all the findings as some gave similar results, i only added some however i wrote all the findings in my lab notes
the peer review process is where a second examiner looks at your work to make sure it's all correct and this makes it more reliable
i used ftir as it provides information on the chemical structure of the ink which can then be compared to others
raman provides the chemical structure of the ink and its a non destructive technique so the bank note can be used after
i used vsc as it can show altercations that are not seen by the naked eye such as what was written under the obliteration
ftir works by shining infrared light through a sample and measuring how the sample absorbs or reflects it
raman works by shining a laser through at sample and measuring how the light scatters
vsc works by capturing the visible and infrared light reflected by the document. its like a magnifying glass
difficult to detect non polar molecules
can cause fluorescence
only used to differeciate and not identify
thin paper chromatography can be used as it reveals the differences in the makeup which allows us to see what was originally written and what was later on added
