what were 5 causes of ww2

-the impact of the treaty of versaille
-the worldwide economic depression

-failure of appeasement

-rise of militarism in germany and japan

-the failure of the league of nations

how did the treaty of versaille cause ww2

-it punished germany harshly
-their economy collapsed, the government lost power, their military became very weak

-so germans became angry and also loyal to hitler who said he was going to change this

how did the worldwide depression cause ww2

-economic instability led to political instability and chaos
-people wanted change and hitler and the nazis offered it

-this gave rise to dictatorships like hitler in germany, mussolini in italy, franco in spain and the military dictatorship in japan

how did failure of appeasement lead to ww2

-it enabled hitler to become aggressive with his policies because everyone else was appeasing him
-for example:

-he took over rhineland when he wasnt suposed to and no one did anything

-he annexed austria and no one did anything

-france and great britain signed the munich agreement which allowed him into czechoslovakia

-ussr signed the nazi soviet pact so he wouldnt have to worry about the soviet union stopping him

how did rise of militarism in germany and japan lead to ww2

-allowed them to create dictatorship governments and to expand fascisit ideologies

how did the failure of the league of nations lead to ww2

-they failed to react to german, italian and japanese agression
-britain and france knew this so they started using appeasement to prevent war

what is appeasement

-giving people what they want to prevent them from hurting you
-like when britain allowed hitler to expand german territory because they didnt want war

what was the nazi soviet pact

-an appeasement by ussr so that they and germany promised to take no military action against each other for 10 years

what was the munich agreement

-an agreement between germany, france and britain that gave part of czechoslovakia (sudeten region) to germany

what is fascism

-the political viewpoint that ones nation and race are superior to all others
-tends to be racist, disctotorships

-hitler, mussolini, franco

what was the nazi party

-germany
-led by hitler

-far right, racist, antisemetic (anti jewish) political party

what were the characteristics of the nazi party

-wanted to outlaw democracy / liked dictatorship
-wanted industry to be owned privately

-government should be run by wealthy and the military

-activities of jewish and foreigners should be restricted

what was an example of japanese aggression that influenced start of ww2

-japan invaded manchuria (in china) in 1931
-there was a civil war going on in china at the time berween nationalists and communists

-league of nations told japan to withdraw

-they refused and quit the league

-the league did not respond

what was an example of italian aggression that led to ww2

-1935-italy under mussolini invades abyssinia (ethiopia) for oil because dont have their own resources
-ethiopia appeals to league of nations

-they only apply trade/economic sanctions

what was an example of aggression of germany

-rebuilds army, navy, airforce (against the treaty of versaille)
-annexes austria

-occupies czechoslovakia

-moves into rhineland (against treaty of versaille)

what were the conditions in japan when they invaded manchuria

-economic problems
-no raw materials for their industries had to import them

-had a strong military tradition (warlords, samarai, strict obedience, kamikazi)
