To be made to feel ashamed by being punished in front of your community.
What is retribution?
A severe punishment meant to match the severity of the crime.
What is rehabilitation?
Reform the criminal so that they live a better life and don't commit more crimes.
What is protection for society?
Remove the criminal to keep people safe.
What has happened to the purpose of punishment over time?
It has shifted from focussed on deterrents to be more interested in reformation.
