An element is a pure substance which is composed of only one atom, and it cannot be broken down into simpler components. A compound is composed of 2 or more different types of elements, and can be broken down into a simpler substance(because it has more than one element.)
Ionic bonds: Forms when atoms are held together by the attraction between opposite charges. Atoms can gain or lose electrons to form ions.
Covalent bonds: Forms when atoms SHARE electrons to satisfy the Octet rule.
Ionic lattice: Repeating pattern of positive and negative ions.
Pure elements that form molecules consisting of two of the same type of atoms bonded together covalently.
