Arterio Venous Fistula (AVF)
What is abnormal to a non-renal patient can be normal to a Renal patient (BP threshold, Blood Test Results, etc). Dialysis Nurses know their patients well and the trend of their blood tests and vital signs.
Renal patients are complex to manage and oftentimes with multiple co-morbidities. Acute issues from these co-morbidities requires alteration of Hemodialysis prescription to ensure safety and achieve optimal HD treatment. Hence identifying the issue is necessary.
Co-morbidities of Renal patients can be exacerbated by continuing hemodialysis if deviation from normal has been flagged and left unresolved.
Any deviation from a renal patient’s normal can be considered as an actual or potential medical emergency if left undiagnosed.
