Nucleotides
Deoxyribose Sugar, Organic base and Phosphate
Weak hydrogen bonds
Adenine->Thymine Guanine->Cytosine
3' and 5' end
Deoxyribose end
Phosphate end
Genetic code
chromosone complement is maintained
DNA to act as a template
Primer
A supply of the 4 types of nucleotide
Enzymes (DNA polymerase and ligase)
Supply of ATP for energy
The DNA must be unwound
They are broken to form 2 template strands
DNA Polymerase
A primer must be present
A primer is a short strand of nucleotide that binds to the 3' end of the template DNA strand allowing polymerase to add DNA nucleotides
DNA Polymerase adds DNA nucleotides using complimentary base pairing to the deoxyribose end (3') of the new DNA strand that is forming.
In one direction
Continuously
In fragments (discontinuously)
