economic system characterised by private ownership of the means of production
Bourgeoisie
the ruling class in society, the owners of the means of production
Proletariat
the working class who sell their labour for wages
Exploitation
treating someone unfairly in order to benefit from their work
False class consciousness
the inabilty of the proletariat to recognise that they are being expolited
Ideology
a system of ideas and ideals (typically economic or political in nature)
Ideological social control
subtle manipulation of the masses to accept ruling class ideology - can be achieved by the media and institutions within society
Means of production
goods, services, business owners of the means of production = bourgeoisie
Class conflict
struggle within society between the Bourgeoisie and Proletariat
Communism
a classless society, no land ownership or ownership or owners of means of production - these are all community owned and wealth is shared (society should aim for this according to traditional Marxists
