if a person is doing an action on someone esle behalf they don't feel personal reponiblity
is a nation would act a certain way because of their personality and that a different nation would act a differtented
made a new study which gave them more then two respondes to authority which was the two in milgram study obey and disobey but the thrid repsonese was whistle-blow
bocchiare test personality and gave a possiable third response
1. asked the p's to give names of students.
2. gave a "cover story" about researchers wanting to replicata a unethical study on young peopel that had negtive effects
3. then asked the p's to write a statement to convince the named fellow students to do the study.
4. the p's did 2 personality tests
the cover story was about an unethical experiment when the participants flet was a frightening experience
1. this is an lab experiment.
2. a male dutch experimetnter was formally dressed and had a stern manner.
3. the experimenter asked names of students to take part in the study.
4. then gave a cover story about a experterment done in rome which the experment was a very unethical experiment where the p's flet was a frigthening experence.
5. the experimenter left the room for 3 minutes to allow the participnats to think when asked to write a statement to persuade the students into the cover story.
6. then the p's were taken to another room to type their statement.
7. the experimenter ask the p's to write type the statement but in a enthusiactic and don't mention anything negtive.
8. the experimenter then left the room for 7 minutes.
9. in the room was a mailbox and a research committe form.
10. if the p's felt that the study violated ethical norms then the p's could report it to the human ethics committe by checking a box and put it in the mailbox.
11. the experimenter took them back to the first room and had them do a personality test. the test inclueded the HEXACO-PI-R this measured 6 personality variables and soical value orientation test.
12. they were then given a debrief.
13. the p's then signed a second consent form fo the real study.
the whole procedure took about 40 minutes.
1. what we think we would do isn't actually would we would do.
2. just becuase you disobeym dones't mean you're going to be a whistle-blow.
3. peopel obey authority.
4. whistleblowers have more faith than obedient or disobedient individuals.
