Chemistry 2.2

Explain the term matter

Everything including you is matter. Matter is anything that has mass and volume.

What is physical property?

Can be observed or measured without changing its chemical identity.

Qualitative properties

Are Properties that are observed and can not be measured with a numerical result.

Quantitative properties

can be measured and described with numerical value.

What elements are you mostly made out of?

Oxygen- 65%
carbon- 18%

nitrogen-3%

hydrogen- 10%

What is density and how can it be measured?

Density is how much matter (mass) is packed into a given area (volume).

You can determine density by using d=m/v

What is mass? How can you determine it?

Mass is the amount of matter an object contains.
You can determine it by m=d x volume.

What is volume? How can you determine it?

Amount of space a substance takes up.
Volume=lenght x width x height

What is a chemical property?

A chemical property tells us how a substance behaved when it interacts with other substance.

What is Physical change

A physical change is when something looks or feels different but doesn't become a new substance. It's like a change in its appearance or state, but it's still the same thing.

What is chemical change?

A chemical change is when substances transform into completely new ones, often due to reactions like burning or rusting.

What is the law of conservation of Mass

mass of reactants=mass of products.
In any chemical reactions, the total mass of the prodcucts is the same as the total mass of reactants.

What is a mixture?

A mixture is a physical combination of two ot more substances that arent chemically joined. For examples ceral and milk.

Matter can be either a...

Mixtures, puresubstance (compount and elements)

What is mixture?

Mixture is a compound made by combining two or more different materials without having a chemical reaction. For example- cereal and milk

What is pure substance?

A pure substance is something that is made up of only one type of material. For example, pure water is only made of water molecules, and pure gold is just gold without anything else mixed in.

What are the two things in a pure substance?

Elements- Can be found in the periodic table. Ex- Iron

Compounds- Composed of two or more seperate elements. Ex- water, table salt and baking soda.

Classify matter

Matter can be classified intontwo categories which is pure substance and mixtures.

Then pure substance can be broken into 2 categories which is elements and compounts.

Mixtures can be broken down into 2 as well which is homogenerous mixture and hetergenous mixture
