The building blocks used by artists to create a work of art.
Elements of Art
It is a series of connected dots.
A fundamental mark or stroke that defines the shape, contour, or outline of a form and can convey motion, direction, or emotion.
Line
sense of height and strength
suggest spirituality
Vertical line
Suggest a feeling of rest or repose.
help give a sense of space.
Horizontal line
give movement
action and direction
objects in a diagonal position are unstable
Diagonal Line

confusion,chaos,and disorder,restless and/or anxiety
Zigsag line
no sharp angles
smooth and fluid
feel gentle and peaceful
Curved line
is a combination of vertical and horizontal line or in opposite directions
contrasting line
• When a line meets up to enclose a space
• 2-dimensional, they have height and width but no depth
Shapes
-regular shapes
-include mathematical named shapes such as squares, rectangles, circles
-often man-made
Geometric Shapes
-are typically irregular or asymmetrical
-often found in nature, but man- made shapes can also imitate organic forms.
Organic Shapes
•the next step up from shape as
•we now add depth to it to create a three-dimensional form.
• It refers to the overall composition of the artwork. It describes the entire shape or organization of the thing or object created.
Form

Space
is the subject or areas of interest in artwork
Positive space
is the space around the focal point.
Negative space
It can set the mood of a design as it suggests movement.
Direction
Four basic types of direction in two- dimensional design are:
A vertical
B. horizontal
C. diagonal
D. radial
is seen when parallel lines meet at a point on the horizon of a 2D composition to convey a sense of depth that mimics 3D recession or depth.
linear perspective
point of view, angle of vision or frame of reference. It is the point where the artist stands to view his subject as he creates his artwork
Perspective
Is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging towards a single "vanishing point" on the horizon line.
One-Point Perspective
Occurs when the vertical edge of a cube is facing the viewer, exposing two sides that recede into the distance, one to each vanishing point.
Two-Point Perspective
It is a form of linear perspective and this three perspective drawing utilizes three vanishing points and these vanishing points can be used to convey, the illusion of depth or height of a 2-dimensional surface

a 3-dimensional art form refers to the area (space) of a sculpture on an architectural struture, and area around it.
A three-dimensional object will have width, height, and depth

Texture
Artists use color, line, and shading to imply textures. In this painting, the man's robe is painted to simulate silk

Creates Calm and Serene Feeling

creates aggressive or dramatic feeling

creates gentle or inviting feeling

creates framatic or powerful feeling

tertiary
are those colors situated next to each other in the color wheel. Examples are red and red-orange, yellow and yellow green, and blue and blue-violet.
ADJACENT COLORS-are
are three or four neighboring colors with one colar
ANALOGOUS COLORS-
are those colors situated opposite to each other in the color. Examples are red and green, blue and orange, yellow and violet.
Double complementary colors are two parts of opposite colors
Ex. Blue and orange, red and green, yellow-green and red-purple
COMPLEMENTARY COLORS
are any three colors forming a Y in the color wheel. Double split complementary colors are any two sets of three colors forming a Y in the color wheel.
Ex Blue, yellow-orange and red-orange. Red-orange, red-purple, green.
SPLIT COMPLEMENTARY COLORS
are set of three colors forming a triangle in the color wheel
Ex. Red, blue and yellow or orange, green and purple.
TRIADIC COLORS
they suggest distance , tranquility, sobriety and restfulness
cool colors
they suggest warmth
,vivacity,cheerfulness,exuitation, stimulation, instinctive action and excitement
warm color
are those colors with values lower than the normal value. For example, pink or fuchsia is a tint of red and azure (sky blue) is a tint of blue
LIGHT COLORS/TINTS
are those colors with values higher than the normal value. For example, maroon is a shade of red and navy blue is a shade of blue
DARK COLORS/SHADES -
are those colors that form a rainbow or a prism. These are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet (ROYGBIV)
RAINBOW OR PRISMATIC COLORS
are those which serve to balance colors. Examples are white, gray, black, brown, peach, cream, gold, silver, and bronze. White is the absence of all colors, while black is the presence of all colors. Gray is produced by combining black and white

used to connote life, nature, good health and well-being
GREEN
used to signify jealousy, divinity, deceit, degradation, and lately Ninoy Aquino.
YELLOW
used to mean the earth, spiritual death and renunciation of the world. ORANGE- used to indicate food
BROWN
used to signify old age ,gloom and decay
