elements ov arts
The building blocks used by artists to create a work of art.
Elements of Art
It is a series of connected dots.
A fundamental mark or stroke that defines the shape, contour, or outline of a form and can convey motion, direction, or emotion.
Line
sense of height and strength
suggest spirituality
Vertical line
Suggest a feeling of rest or repose.
help give a sense of space.
Horizontal line
give movement
action and direction
objects in a diagonal position are unstable
Diagonal Line
exiting pathway
confusion,chaos,and disorder,restless and/or anxiety
Zigsag line
no sharp angles
smooth and fluid
feel gentle and peaceful
Curved line
is a combination of vertical and horizontal line or in opposite directions
contrasting line
• When a line meets up to enclose a space
• 2-dimensional, they have height and width but no depth
Shapes
-regular shapes
-include mathematical named shapes such as squares, rectangles, circles
-often man-made
Geometric Shapes
-are typically irregular or asymmetrical
-often found in nature, but man- made shapes can also imitate organic forms.
Organic Shapes
•the next step up from shape as
•we now add depth to it to create a three-dimensional form.
• It refers to the overall composition of the artwork. It describes the entire shape or organization of the thing or object created.
Form
area around,above,and within an object
area or the surface occupied by the artwork
Space
is the subject or areas of interest in artwork
Positive space
is the space around the focal point.
Negative space
It can set the mood of a design as it suggests movement.
Direction
Four basic types of direction in two- dimensional design are:
A vertical
B. horizontal
C. diagonal
D. radial
is seen when parallel lines meet at a point on the horizon of a 2D composition to convey a sense of depth that mimics 3D recession or depth.
linear perspective
point of view, angle of vision or frame of reference. It is the point where the artist stands to view his subject as he creates his artwork
Perspective
Is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging towards a single "vanishing point" on the horizon line.
One-Point Perspective
Occurs when the vertical edge of a cube is facing the viewer, exposing two sides that recede into the distance, one to each vanishing point.
Two-Point Perspective
It is a form of linear perspective and this three perspective drawing utilizes three vanishing points and these vanishing points can be used to convey, the illusion of depth or height of a 2-dimensional surface
Three-Point Perspective
two dimentional drawing or painting refers to the arrangement of objects on the parture pla Picture plane is the surface of your drawing paper or соnvе
space
a 3-dimensional art form refers to the area (space) of a sculpture on an architectural struture, and area around it.
A three-dimensional object will have width, height, and depth
space
The darkness or lightness of color
value
area in which light is originating from
light source
a guide to creating a range of value, good pieces of art have a full range of value
Value scale
transition of values(grey)
tone
areas on an object where light is hitting
highlight
areas on an object where light does not hit
shadows
An element of visual arts associated with the sense of touch; the surface characteristic of an area.
Texture
Artists use color, line, and shading to imply textures. In this painting, the man's robe is painted to simulate silk
texture depicted in two dimensions
Creates Calm and Serene Feeling
smooth texture
creates aggressive or dramatic feeling
rough texture
creates gentle or inviting feeling
soft texture
creates framatic or powerful feeling
hard texture
light reflected off of objects
color
the color itself the name pf color
Hue
it means the object had only one hue
MONOCHROMATIC
when the object has two or more hues
POLYCHROMATIC
the darkness or lightness of color
value
the brightness or dullness of the color
a color as we see it on color wheel
intensity
classification of color
primary
secondary
tertiary
main colors of blue,red,and yellow
primary
mixture of primary colors violet,orange,green
secondary
mixture of primary and secondary color(rv,bv,bg,yg,yo,ro)
tertiary
are those colors situated next to each other in the color wheel. Examples are red and red-orange, yellow and yellow green, and blue and blue-violet.
ADJACENT COLORS-are
are three or four neighboring colors with one colar
ANALOGOUS COLORS-
are those colors situated opposite to each other in the color. Examples are red and green, blue and orange, yellow and violet.
Double complementary colors are two parts of opposite colors
Ex. Blue and orange, red and green, yellow-green and red-purple
COMPLEMENTARY COLORS
are any three colors forming a Y in the color wheel. Double split complementary colors are any two sets of three colors forming a Y in the color wheel.
Ex Blue, yellow-orange and red-orange. Red-orange, red-purple, green.
SPLIT COMPLEMENTARY COLORS
are set of three colors forming a triangle in the color wheel
Ex. Red, blue and yellow or orange, green and purple.
TRIADIC COLORS
they suggest distance , tranquility, sobriety and restfulness
