What does safeguarding mean
Ensuring the safety of all participants under your care
Who would be considered a vulnerable adult

mental capacity - Protect those who lack the capacity to make their own decisions e.g dementia, learning disabilities

What is a safeguarding policy and what should be included
A statement that outlines what an organisation or group will do to keep children safe
- a statement about their commitment to protection
- what they will do to keep children safe and respond to concerns

Physical abuse
Includes - hitting, throwing, over training
Signs - Reoccuring injuries, refusal to undress for activities
Emotional abuse
Includes - Bullying, pressure, name calling
Signs - Becoming introverted, gained speech impediments, overly aggressive
Negglect
Includes - Using unsafe equipment, lack of supervision, witholding medication
Signs - Lack of energy, health issues, poor personal hygeine
Sexual abuse
Includes - Forcing or enticing a person to take part in sexual activities
Signs - Mood swings, pregnancy, self harm, inappropriate sexual behaviour, secrets
How to deal with suspected abuse
Follow procedures
Talk to the child/adult
Talk to others close to them
Report to appropriate authorities
record and store details according to the data protection act
continue to provide the child a safe environment
