Surface barriers that prvent pathogen entry
1) Physical- skin, mucous membranes
2) Chemical- vaginal secretions, saliva
Non specific attack
consists of leukocytes
compromises innate immunity
Specific attack on pathogens
production of AB, lymphocytes
Targets adaptive immunity
1) Hyperacute: immediate inflammatory response within mins-hrs
2) Acute- Within 3 mths
mediated by macrophages and T-cytotoxic cells
often reversible with immunosupressant drugs
3) Chronic- months to a year
Non treatable and irreversivle
low grade B & T-cell mediated response
1) Glucocorticoids- inhibits all stages of T-cell production and used for induction
2) Calcineum inhibitors- inhibit phosphate procuction for INK2 production
3) Biologics- Inhibit T-cytotoxic & TNK cells
4) Antimetabolic- Inhibits cell poliferation
AAI- Body is clinically exposed to harmless antigen that does not cause infection but body stores info of AT ready to resist in the future
NAI- Pt acquires immunity by surviving the disease and producing AB
