FBLA COMP CPU SCI: Algorithms & ProgrammingConcepts:1:@1

A list of steps to finish a task. A set of instructions performed with or without a computer. For example, the collection of steps to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is an algorithm.

algorithm

process of automatically analyzing the behavior of computer programs for things like correctness, robustness, or safety

analysis

a data transmission rate

bandwidth

Basic Input Output System - special firmware stored in a chip on your computer's motherboard. First program that runs every time you turn on computer.

BIOS

image represented as two-dimensional array of brightness values for pixels

bitmap

of or relating to a combinatorial system devised by George Boole that combines propositions with the logical operators AND and OR and IF THEN and EXCEPT and NOT

Boolean

a technique to deliver content on a Web page to a search engine in such a way that different content than what is delivered to a regular human user appears on the search engine. Goal is to boost a website's search engine rank on certain keywords

cloaking

short for Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor; an on-board, battery powered semiconductor chip inside computers that stores information. When you make changes to your BIOS configuration, the settings are not stored on the BIOS chip itself. Instead, they are stored on a CMOS.

CMOS

creating commands or algorithms designed to be carried out by a computer

coding

anything created by a human using a computer - e.g. program, image, audio, video, presentation, or web page file

computational artifact

thought processes involved in formulating a problem and expressing its solution(s) in such a way that a computer—human or machine—can effectively carry out

computational thinking

a code added to data that is used to detect errors occurring during transmission, storage, or retrieval

cyclical redundancy check

the analysis of data objects and their relationships to other data objects. Often the first step in database design.

data models

a situation existing between two relational database tables; one table has a foreign key that references the primary key of the other table. Relationships allow relational databases to split and store data in different tables, while linking disparate data items

database relationships

process of taking encoded or encrypted text and converting it back into text that you or the computer can read and understand.

decryption

process that reduces amount of fragmentation by physically organizing the contents of a mass storage device into the smallest number of contiguous regions (fragments).

defragmentation

retrieving data immediately from any part of a computer file without having to read the file from the beginning.

direct access

takes real-time snapshot of every page, post, category, link, etc. Snapshots are then stored (cached) into folder of your choice, so they can be referenced and served to the visitor later, in order to save database processing time that has been slowing your website down.

Easy Cache

activity of converting data or information into code

encryption

a network protocol that controls how data is transmitted over a LAN (local area network)

ethernet

a set of characters comprising a unit of information

field

graphical representation of a computer program in relation to its sequence of functions (as distinct from the data it processes)

flowchart

ranks components in terms of response times, with processor registers at the top of the pyramid structure and tape backup at the bottom

hierarchy

a wireless LAN (local area network) node that provides Internet connection and virtual private network (VPN) access from a given location

hotspot

a sequence of instructions that is continually repeated until a certain condition is reached

looping

the language of the web - include HTML, XML, and XHTML - all of which have some things in common

markup languages

a set of numbers laid out in tabular form (rows and columns). From this meaning, a less formal meaning is derived of a complex collection of lines intersecting at right angles

matrix

thinking about different possible ways to solve a problem and choosing the best possible solution

metacognition
