Group 1 (elements, MP, density, reactivity)
Elements : Lithium, Sodium, Potassium (soft metals)
MP : Decreases down the group
Density : Increases down the group
Reactivity : Increases down the group
Group VII halogens (elements, density, reactivity, appearance, displacement)
Elements: Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine
Density : Increases down the group
Reactivity: Decreases down the group
Appearance: Chlorine (pale yellow-green gas), Bromine (red-brown liquid), Iodine (grey-black solid). Gas -> Liquid -> Solid, Gets darker
Displacement: More reactive halogens displace less reactive halogens in displacement reactions.
Transition Elements properties (5 points)
- High density
- High Melting Point
- Form colored compound
- Often act as catalysts
- Ions have variable oxidation numbers (example: Iron (II) and Iron (III))
Group VIII (3 points)
- Noble gases
- Unreactive, monatomic gases
- Have a full outer shell which is why they are unreactive
