The steering should be light, so if it is heavy this could mean the system is not working properly. before a journey, there are two checks that can be made. If you apply gentle pressure to the steering wheel, whilst the engine is on, there should be a noticeable movement as the system begins to operate. Alternatively moving the steering wheel as soon as you set off will indicate whether the system is working properly as well.

Then identify where the dipstick is and youd say to take out the dipstick, wipe it down, put it back in then you take it back out again and check whether the oil level is between the minimum and the maximum markers.
