The Biologist and the Surveyor go into the tower for the second time to investigate
"...the tower was breathing... the tower breathed.. and the walls... carried the echo of a heartbeat.... and they were not made of stone but of living tissue."
When the Biologist and the rest of the group first enter Area X, they find a strange boar charging towards their direction
"Its face became stranger. Its features... contorted.. and the startling impression of some presence..."
This is narrated by The Biologist who is in the process of assimilation and now knows everything in Area X has been human at one point in their life.
“The boar on the way to base camp, the strange dolphins, the tormented beast in the reeds...Transformations were taking place here.”
She accepts the fact that she is meant to be a part of Area X. She describes how the brightness within her is just the beginning of her change and transformation into Area X, and to remain human is not an option.
“...the brightness is not done with me. It is just the beginning, and the thought...to remain human seems somehow pathetic.”
This is what the crawler writes in the walla os the tower, which symbolises the true purpose of Area X.
“Feed Area X, but do not antagonize it, but perhaps someone will, through pure luck or repetition, hit upon some explanation, some solution, before the world becomes Area X.”
“We don't know if they understand the difference between a weapon and a tool. Our language, like our culture, is messy, and sometimes one can be both."
Louise tells the authorities this after they misinterpret the meaninf behind "Offer Weapon".
his translation was “Gavsti” which means “argument. Louise says to the Colonel that it means “a desire for more cows.”
Colonel Weber approaches Louise about the job of translating the Heptapod language. Louise Initially denies Colonel’s request and just as Colonel is about to walk away, a close up shot of Louise’s face is shown as she tells him to refer to another linguist named Danvers for the Sanskrit word for ‘war’ and its translation. A close up shot was used in this conversation to place emphasis on Louise’s facial expression, as it is fully shown that she is confident that she is the only linguist able to interpret said example reliably.
Later, Weber arrives on her doorstep and tells her
“Offer Weapon”
Louise and Ian are in their normal attire, all the while the rest of the other scientists are in bright orange hazmat suits. The contrast of color between the bright orange and the black and gray spacecraft can indicate their feelings of danger and feeling of untrust towards the heptapods, and is in a way responding to this conflict with fear.
During Louise’s attempt in using the phone and trying to buy time to call General Shang, she tells him his wife’s dying words
“In war, there are no winners, but only widows.”.
