Fucking Waves

What is the P Wave

Atrial depolarization with resulting atrial contraction.

What does the QRS represent?

Ventricular depolarization, ventricular contraction; atrial repolarization occuring.

T Wave

Ventricular repolarization

U Wave

Repolarization of the Purkinje fibers; electrolyte imbalances

PR Interval

Beginning of atrial depolarization to the beginning of ventricular depolarization.

QT Wave

Period of time from the start of ventricular depolarization to the end of ventricular repolarization

ST segment

Time between ventricular depolarization and the beginning of ventricular repolarization

What is gain?

Regulates the output or height of the EKG waveform

What is the standard setting of gain?

5mm/mV

If heart rate is elevated what gain setting should it be set on?

20mm/mV

What is speed?

Regulates how fast or slow the paper or data runs during ECG procedure.

What is the standard setting of speed?

25 mm/sec

If patient has unsual rapid heart rate, what should the speed be changed to?

50 mm/sec

What should you do when you do change the settings other than the standard?

Notify the provider who will interpret the tracing.

Note this on the EKG tracing

If the rhythm is regular, whtat method should you use?

1500 method

300 method

What is PAC?

Premature atrial complexes

PAC is a early electrical impulses that originate in the atria

True

What is the J point?

Junction occuring at the end of the QRS complex and the beginning of the ST interval

What does J point represent?

The end of the QRS complex and ventricular depolarization

What is the location of Lead I?

Right arm & Left arm

Where is the location of Lead II?

Right arm & left leg

Where is the location of Lead III?

Left arm & left leg

Where should the aVR be located?

Right arm

Where should the aVL be located?

Left arm

Where should the aVF be located?

Left leg

Location of V1

Right sternum, 4th intercostal

Location of V2

Left sternum, 4th intercostal

Location of V3

Midway between V2 and V4

Location of V4

Midclavicular line, 5th intercostal space

Location of V5

In line with V4 at anterior axillary line

Location of V6

In line with V4 and V5 at mid-axillary line

What is sinus block?

Failure of the signal to exit the SA node ("blocked" signal). Pause that is direct multiple of the underlying rhythm.

What is sinus arrest?

Total failure of the SA node to generate a signal, which causes random-length of pause.
