What could the independent variables be?
pH, temp, or substrate conc
What is the enzyme practical for?
To measure the rate of an enzyme reaction
What could the dependent variable in this practical?
-Time take for a colour change using indicator
-Or mass/volume of product produced
-Change in pH (lipids)
What could the control variables be in this practical?
-Volume of solutions
-concentration of solutions
-pH or temperature
(note that it will be which ever isnt your independent variable)
Example - Rate of amylase in a reaction with starch
-Use a water bath to vary temp
-Use same concentrations + volumes of solutions
-Measure the time it takes for iodine to stop changing to blue/black ( all starch digested ) - Take samples of solution every 30s and testing with iodine until it no longer turns blue/black
