CHILDHOOD OVER TIME - Aries
In the middle ages, the idea of childhood did not exist. Aries studied paintings that showed children as small adults. Children had the same responsibilities, rights and skills as adults. Now, there is a distinction between children and adults in terms of clothing, rights and responsibilities.
CHILDHOOD OVER TIME - Postman
Childhood is ‘disappearing’ - some same rights as adults, committing adult crimes and traditional games dissapeared. Reading ability created the hierarchy between adults and children to keep "adult matters" private, but due to TV children can understand any info as any skill level can access it.

In middle ages, high infant mortality rate encourages neglect of children. Parents refer to child as "it" or gave forward the name of a dead sibling.

Childhood improved, due to how children are now seen as vulnerable, and need taking care of. Also, there has been an introduction of laws which improve the experience of childhood (Eg. laws banning child labour).
