A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties, often with promises and obligations involved. In the Bible, covenants are significant in understanding the relationship between God and His people. There are several biblical covenants, but two of the most well-known are the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants.
The Abrahamic covenant is found in Genesis 12:1-3, where God promises to make Abraham into a great nation, bless him, and make his name great. In return, Abraham is to trust and obey God, and to circumcise every male in his household as a sign of the covenant.
The Mosaic covenant is found in Exodus 19-24, where God promises to make the Israelites His treasured possession and a kingdom of priests if they obey His commandments. The people agree to obey by saying, "All that the Lord has spoken we will do" (Exodus 19:8).
Both the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants demonstrate how God established and maintained His relationship with His people by making and fulfilling promises based on certain conditions.
