microbes

what is the differences between multicellular and unicellular organisims?

unicellular organisims are made up out of one cell that does all the functions. Multicellular organisims use many different cells to function.

how can microbes or microorganisims be seen

microscopes

three main types of microbes

batcteria, viruses , fungi

are viruses living

No they do not carry out the seven life processes

What does MRS GREN stand for

Movement
Reproduction

Sensitivity

Growth

Respiration

Excretion

Nuitrition

Movement

being able to move all or a part of itself

reporduction

producing more living things like itself

sensitivity

sesning and reacting to things around it

growth

increasing in size

respiration

using chemical reactions to release energy

excretion

getting rid of waste materials it makes

nuitrition

needing food

what do microbes need to grow

food, oxygen,water, space/time and warmth

why do microbes need food to grow

it provides nutrients to carry out the life processes

why do microbes need water to grow

It helps keep the cells from drying out

why do microbes need oxygen to grow

They can grow without oxygen but more slowly and most microbes grow better with oxygen

why do microbes need warmth to grow

Increases speed of enzymes

how can microbes be spread

through the air, water , touch , food , animals and sex

microbe that causes colds and flu

virus

microbe that causes food poisoning

bacteria

microbe that causes cholera

bacteria

microbe that causes athelete's foot

Fungus

syptoms of cold and flu

sore throat, runny nose, fever

syptoms of cholera

vommitting and diarrhoea

syptoms of food poisoning

vommiting and diarrhoea

syptoms of atheletes foot

sore cracked skin between the toes

how colds and flu are spread

air

how food poising is spread

food

how cholera is spread

water

how atheltes food it spread

touch

how can we stop food poisining from spreading

dry, freeze or refrigerate foods and pasteurizing milk

how can we stop cholera from spreading

adding chlorine to water to kill bacteria

how can we stop athletes foot from spreading

use disinfectants, antispetics and soaps

how can we stop disease from spreading in general

immunise people with vaccines and making sure that sewage is treated and disposed of porperly

how does paesturazation help

kills harmful bacteria

how does disinfectant help

kills bacteria in toilets and around buildings

how does soaps and antiseptics help

kills bacteria on our bodies

how does chlorine in drinking water help

kills bacteria in water

how does salting, canning, piclking in vingear help

kills microbes in food

how does drying, freezing, refrigating help

stops or slows the growth of microbes in food

how does cooking foods well help

kills of bacteria

what does paesturization prevent

turberculosis

what do disinfectants prevent

upset stomachs and legionnares disease

what do soaps and antiseptics prevent

skin disease anf upset stomachs

what does chlorine in drinking water prevent

cholera, typhoid, upset stomachs

what do salting, cannning and pickling in vingear prevent

upset stomach

what do drying, freezing and refrigerating prevent

upset stomach

what does cooking foods well prevent

food posining

anerobic respiraration equation

gluecose to ethanol + carbon dioxide

aerobic respiration equation

gluecose + oxygen to carbon dioxide + water

bacteria

bacteria uses anaerobic respirartion with the equation gluecose to lactic acid and makes yougurt and cheese

fungi

fungi uses both anaerobic and aerobic respiration
anaerobic equation- gluecose to ethanol + carbon dioxide

aerobic equation - gluecose + oxygen to carbon dioxide + water. anerobic respiration is used to make beer, wine and bread and aerobic is used for bread
