What is the function of the uterus?
Provides protection, nutrients, and waste removal for the developing fetus; muscular walls contract to aid birthing.
What does the fallopian tube (oviduct) do?
Connects the ovary to the uterus; fertilization of the egg occurs here.
What is the function of the ovaries?
Store, develop, and mature eggs (meiosis); produce estrogen and progesterone.
What is the role of the endometrium (lining of the uterus)?
Develops each month in readiness for implantation of a fertilized egg; site of implantation becomes the placenta.
What does the cervix do?
Acts as a muscular opening/entrance to the uterus; closes to protect the fetus and opens to form the birth canal.
What functions does the vagina perform?
Accepts the penis during sexual intercourse and receives sperm; together with the cervix forms the birth canal.
What is the kidney’s role related to reproduction?
Removes wastes and extra fluid from your body.
What does the ureter do?
Carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
What is the bladder’s function?
Stores urine, allowing urination.
What is the urethra responsible for?
Empties urine from the bladder.
