Lab Urinary

medulla

collects urine and excretes urine

deep in cortex

medulla

contains collecting ducts

medulla

Major calyx

receives urine from minor calyces and drains uring into renal pelvis

Column

medullary extensions of the renal cortex in between the renal pyramid

consists of lines of blood vessels and urinary tubes and fibrous material which allows cortex to better anchored

column

Hilum

where nerves enters and exits

vertical fissure in concave surface of the kidney

hilum

Renal pelvis

single large cavity that receives urine from the major calyces

drains urine into uterers

renal pelvis

Cortex

outermost region of kidney

uses filtration to form filtrate; contains renal corpulses

cortex

1. Rena corpuscle lies in the outer portion of cortex
2. Short nephron loop-extends to outer medulla

3. blood supply from peritobular capillaries that arise from efferent arterioles

4. creates urine with osmolarity

cortical nephron

1. Renal corpuscle lies deep in renal cortex close to medulla
2. long nephron loops-deepest region of medulla

3. blood supply from peritotubular caps and vasa recta

4. has thin ascending limb followed by thick ascending limb

5. secretes very diluted or very concentrated urine

Juxtamedullary nephron

Micturition

act of emptying the bladder

requires actions from voluntary and involuntary muscles

micturition

Superficial layer of Kidney

Renal fascia-dense CT; anchors kidney to abdominal cavity

Middle Kidney structure

Adipose layer-protects kidney from trauma; holds it in place

Deep kidney structure

renal capsule-dense irregular tissue that runs continuous with the uterer

Trigone

sm triangular area on the floor of the bladder that contains 3 openings; 2 utereral opeings and internal urethral orfice

Urethra

small tube leading from internal urethral orfice on the bladder floor to the exterior

Ureters

transports urine from the renal pelvis to the bladder using peristatic waves, hydrostatic pressure adn gravity to move urin

Detrusor Muscle

contracts when it receives impulses from the PNS from mictruition center

internal and external sphincter

when dentrusor contracts, internal sphincter urethral relaxes to allow urination and at the same time the mictruition center inhibits somatic motor neurons that innervate the skeletal muscle in external urtheral sphincter
