what are the pericardial membranes?
The heart is enclosed in the pericardial membranes, of which there are three layers. where the heart is housed.
what are the three layers of the pericardial membrane?
1. Fiberous pericardium
2. parietal pericardium
3. visceral pericardium (epicardium)
Describe the fibrous pericardium.
The outermost layer. A loose fitting sack of strong, fiberous connective tissues that extends inferiorly over the diaphragm and superiorly over the base of the large vessels that enter and leave the heart.

on the surface of the heart muscle
what is serous fluid
prevent friction as the heartbeats between the visceral and pareital pericardium.
what are the 3 layers of the heart wall?
1. epicardium
2. myocardium
3. endocardium
Epicardium
Thin, transparent outer layer that contains blood vessels, and vessels that supply the myocardium (fuel). This is also the visceral pericardium.
Myocardium
thick, muscular layer, responsible for strong, PUMPING action of the heart, made of specialized muscle tissue that is found only in the heart.
endocardium
Lines the chambers and covers the valves, it is continuous with the endothelial linings of the blood vessels leaving and entering the heart.
