Two types of Grammar

Descriptive and Prescriptive Grammar

Parts of speech

Noun

Six kinds of nouns

Proper, Common, Collective, Mass, Concrete, Abstract nouns

name groups(it depends if singular or plural)
family, army

Collective noun

kind of noun that cannotbe counted (salt, sugar)

Mass noun

kind of noun that exist in physical world (petals, tables, pens, cups)

Concrete noun

a word use to replace a noun

Pronoun

is used to emphasize the antecedent (can be deleted)

Intensive Pronoun

Refers back to the subject in the sentence/gives emphasis to the subject.(cannot be deleted)

Reflexive Pronoun

kind of pronoun that ask Wh Questions

Interrogative Pronoun

a content word that denotes an action, occurence, or state of existence

Verb

Kind of verb that form their past tense and past participle in several ways

Irregular verbs

kind of verb that are used to link or join the subject with a word in the predicate which relates to the subject

Linking verbs

is a part of speech used to modify nouns and pronouns

Adjective

is a part of speech which modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. It is generally placed immediately before or after the word it modifies.

Adverb

An adverb that tells u when something is done or happens. We used it at the beginning or at the end of sentence. We use it as a form of emphasis when we place it at the beginning. (later, now, soon)

Adverb of Time

an adverb that tells us where something is done or happens.

Adverb of frequency

a word used to connect sentences, clauses, phrases or words

Conjunction

Refers to how an vent or action is to be viewed with respect to time, rather than to its actual location in time.

Aspect

Literary work that is written within the common flow f language in sentences and in paragraphs

Prose

literary work of imaginative narration most likely fashioned to entertain and make readers think and feel

fiction

Literary work of real-life narration or exposition based on history and fact whose main thrust is an intellectual appeal to convey facts, theories, generalizations, or concepts about a particular topic

Non-fiction

representations of the human beings in the story

Character

establishes the conflict as well as curiosity, uncertainty, and tension

Rising Action

Opposition of persons or conflict of the story. The basic temsion predicament, or challenge of the story

Conflict

leads to an affirmation, decisin, action, and realization. The peak of the story

Climax

a plot where linear development of the story merges with an interruption in the chronological order to show an event that happened in the past. Flashback, Foreshadowing

Circular plot

an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a unnatural plot device in fiction HOpeless.

Deux En machina

is the significant value or truth about life and it's nature that takes place I the ullustrations of the actions, preoccupations, and decisions of the characters.

Theme

long narrative poem about a character who embodies the values of thee society

Epic

a medieval verse based on legends, chivalric love and adventure, or supernatural.

Metrical Tale/Metrical Romance

a simple narrative pem of a story, composed in short stanza ad adapted for melodiousrecital.

Ballad

differs from other poem in that it is intended primarily to be sung. It has a melodious quality required by the singing voice

The category of all those lyrical poems that do not properly belong under any of the other category

simple lyric

any story written in verse and in dialogue that is intended to be presented andacted on stage in front of an audience
