Anaphora
The repetiton of the same word or phrase at the beggining of successive clauses (e.g: i needed a vacation, i needed a break, i needed to get away)
Antithesis
The juxtaposition of contrasting ideas and phrases (e.g: love is an ideal thing, marriage is a real thing)
Elegant Variation
Using synonyms to refer to the same thing. (e.g Rufus, or, The dog)
Metonymy
A figure of speech in which one word is substituted for another which it is closely associated with. (e.g crown for royalty)
Synecdoche
A figure of speech which is meant to represent the whole (E.g ABCs for the alphabet)
Tricolon
A series of three parallel words, phrases or clauses. (e.g we came, we saw, we conquered)
Portmanteam
Blending different words and ideas.
