Explain the following the meaning: Inspiration, Expiration

Inspiration- During inspiration the muscles contract moving the rib cage upwards and outwards, the diagram contracts downwards to a more flatten position. Airflow into the lungs.

Expiration- during expiration the diaphragm and the muscles relax and air leaves the lungs

External respiration?

gases exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide must occur between pulmonary blood and alveoli.

Internal respiratory

gas exchange must be made between the blood and tissue cells

Explain the transportation of oxygen?

oxygen mainly transports itself around blood by attaching to haemoglobin inside the red cells to form oxyhaeoglobin.

A very small amount of oxygen is carried dissolved in plasma.


Carbon dioxide is mainly transported in plasma of the blood.
