federal government
highest level, deal with most important issues that involve all of canada and affect population, divided into legislative executive and judical branch
federal government responsibilities
national defence, foreign policy, international trade, citizenship, first nation affairs, postal service, immigration, and crimincal law
provincial level
second level, deal eith issues that happens to their own province as a whole, not just specific areas, they share responsibilities with the federal goverment like healthcare immigration transportation agriculture and social issues
provincial responsiblities
education, healthcare, highways, charities, licenses, provincial police, proncial parks and courts
municipal government
lowest level, responsible for decisions made in the local community
municpal responsibilities
policing and fire services, snow and waste removal, recycling, childcare, by law enforcement, parks, libraries, and communitt centers
executive branch
queen (govenor general), prime minister, and cabinet ministers: have the power to adminster and carry out laws, establish policy, conduct international relations
legislative
upper house>senate (senates are appointed and review laws) lower house> house of commons (members of parliament are elected, propose and make laws, have power to make and ammend laws
judical
supreme court of canada, federal courts, provincial courts, has the power to decide who has broken the laws and to set penalties. interprets and applies laws, independant (positiciams cant influence)
political spectrum
range of beleifs and views on a civic or politcal issue, representation of politxal viewpoints
(liberal, conservative, NDP, bloc quebecqois, green party)
left wing
socialist and communust where taxes are used ti provide services
right wing
facisrs and conservative with string law enformcement and buisness
voting + elections
General elections occur every four years but sooner when Prime Minister calls on governor to dissolve parliament. A federal election is every four years but sooner if Prime Minister believes it is necessary or have lost an important role. Campaign last 36 days and principle called representation by population.

Canadian citizen, 18 years of age, live in writing for past six months, pay a deposit of $1000, and collect signatures of 5 to 25 people on a nomination form.
what is canadas voting system
Canada's system is called a First passed the post system. The winner is the candidate who receives the most votes on election day. The popular vote refers to the total number of ballots cost in an election.
