classification?
distinguish people into groups by their race, beleifs, religion, race, nationality. in rwanada the tutsi were seen as 'better' cuz they had more european features
symbolization
the divided groups are given symbols, names, colours or dress. in WW2 all the jewish people had to wear the star of david, and they had the name JEW
dehuminization
the opressors deny the humanity of the opressed. they equate them to animals, disease or vermin. hate propoganda is printed. Rwandan genocide, with Hutu's likening Tutsis to cockroaches
organization
the plannning of the genocide is organized through army training or special units. the groups are identified; jewish people seperated along with homosexuals, polish, gypsies, ect. WW2
polorization
us VS them mentality, laws forbidding intermarrying or social interaction. groups are targeted and driven apart. Der Sturmer newspaper used in WW2 to further spread the groups apart.
preparation
victims are found and seperated into 'camps'. forced to wear identifying symbols, subjected to starvation, disease and forced labor. WW2 consentration camps
extermination
mass killings occur called genocide. the killers dont see the victims as fully human. mass killings of a peoples group, culture ect. 1.5 million armenian christians killed by young turks in rwanda genocide.
denial
attempt to cover up thier crimes by burning bodies, refering to the crime as overstated or even calling it a 'civil war'. Holocaust denial about gas chambers (gas residue not found on walls blah blah blah)
