analyzes and converts the messages and relays message through axon
what does the axon terminal do
it releases neurotransmitters that will relay the message to the next neuron
what is the synapse
the space between neurons, where neurotransmitters are released by the axon terminals and picked up by dendrites
what is the pathway after you come in contact with a stimulus
1. stimulus activates a sensory neuron (receptor)
sensory neurons bring message to the brain
2. brain analyzes the message
3. brain sends message through motor nerves to eventually creates a motor response
what are the 5 parts of the brain
1. cerebrum
2. cerebellum
3. brain stem
4. cranium (skull)
5. meninges
what is the cerebrum in charge of (6)
emotions, intelligence, senses, thoughts, voluntary motion, dreams
what is the cerebellum in charge of
coordination, balance, fine tune motion
what is the brain stem in charge of
involuntary actions and motion (breathing, body temp.)

they sense and convert stimuli into nervous signal that goes to sensory neurons

1. sensory receptor feels the hit
2. sensory neurons relay message to cns (spine)
3. reflex arc from the spine sends a message back to the toe using motor neurons, and you move your foot away from the hammer
4. spine sends signal to the brain to analyze the situation
then you feel pain
which type of matter is on the outside and inside in the brain (cerebrum)

why is white matter on the outside of the spinal cord
so reflexes can be processed faster because signal won't have to go through grey matter
what is white matter made up mostly of, and why does it get its color
made mostly of axons, white because of myelin sheath made out of fat
give the 6 simple steps from a stimuli to a muscular response
stimulus --> sensory receptor --> sensory neurons (pns->cns) --> brain (for analysis) --> motor neurons (cns->pns) --> muscular response
