What is waves?

Waves is the disturbance travelling in a medium transferring energy from one place (source) to another.

How are waves formed?

Waves are formed when particles vibrate in a fixed position, they produce kinetic energy which is then radiated to the next group of particles. These continuous vibrated motion gives rise to waves.

Name the structures of a wave?

Amplitude, wavelength, Frequency, Period, Velocity and Displacement.

What is amplitude?

Amplitude is the height of the wave measured in respect to its rest position. It is measured in metres.

What is wavelength?

Wavelength is the messurement taken from the highest peak to the next highest peak of a wave. It is measured in meters.

What is frequency?

Frequency is the number of wavelengths per second.

What is period?

Period is the measure of time for one complete cycle of a wave to occur.

What is velocity?

Speed at which a wave travels through a medium.

What is displacement?

Distance of a point on the wave from its resting position at any given time.

Name the two waves.

1) Transverse waves
2) Longitudinal waves

What are transverse waves?

Transverse waves are disturbance travelling perpendicular to the direcrion of the wave.

What is longitudinal waves?

Disturbance travelling parallel to the direction of the waves.

Longitudinal wave- high pressure region is called?
-low pressure rwgion is called?

Compression and Rarefraction respectively.

What is mechanical wave?

Waves that require medium to travell.

What is matter waves?

Wave like behaviour of particles thaf has mass.

What is electromagnetic waves?

They are transversal waves that occur due to the oscillation between electric field and a magnetic field.

Electromagnetic wave is a 3-D wave

x- waves velocity
y- electric field

z- magnetic field

List all the behaviours of waves.

transmission, reflection, absorption, refraction and diffraction.
