Harold had a stronger battle strategy ( hardrada predicted morcar would charge into tostig's forces, and purposfully positioned the weaker forces with tostig)
Tostig, he believed his forces was the weakest part of hardrada's army
Edwin forced his troops to retreat back to yorkshire. Morcar was unaware of this which lead to hardrada attacking morcars forces
