allegory

a narrative in which the characters often stand for abstract concepts. An allegory generally teaches a lesson by means of an interesting story. (metafoor, vergelijkt 2 dingen)

alliteration

the repetion at close intervals of constant sounds for a purpose. For example: wailing in the winter wind (beginzin)

allusion

a reference to something in literature, history, mythologie, religious texts etc., considered common knowledge. (verwijzing naar geschiedenis met een verhaal van herhaling)

double or even mutual meaning

analogy

a point by point comparison between two dissimilar things for the purpose of clarifying the less familiar of the two things. ( life is like chocolate)

apostrophe

the device, usually in poetry, of calling out to an imaginary, dead or absent person, place, thing or oersonilised abstraction eighter to begin a poem or to make a dramatic break in thought somewhere whitin the poem (emoties, ideeeen personifieren als levend wezen)

antagonist

the character of force that apposes the protagonist( tegenstander van de held)

assonance

the repetion at close intervals of vowel sounds for a purpose. For example: mas as a hatter (rijmende klinkers in een zin)

ballad

a narratige poem that was originally meant to be sung. ballads are generally about ordinary people with unusual adventures. it contains diologue and repetition

cacophony

harsh, clashing, dissonound sound often preduced by combinations of words that requiere a clipped and explosive delivery

catalog

a long list of anything, an invetory used to list a wide range of elements within a givrn topic (opsomming)

character

the vehicle that movewmthe story forward. A character may be main or minor.

climax

the point at wich the conflict of the story begins to reach a turning point and begins to be resolved

concelt

an elaborate figure of speach comparing two very dissimilair things

connotation

the associations, images or impressions carried by a word, as opposed to the worlds literal meaning. (een woord dat verwijst naar gevoelens)

consonance

the close repetion of identical consonant sounds before and after doffering vowel sounds (herhaling medeklinkers)

convention

in general, an accepted way of doeing things

denotation

the precise, literal meaning of a word, worhout emotional associations or overtones

denouement

the final unraveling or outcome pf the plot in draka or fiction
