Places waterproof pad underneath the resident.

Lifts resident's gown to expose catheter area

10. Check to see that urine can flow, unrestricted, into the drainage bag. (it would be helpful to verbalize checking while looking for kinks in tubing)

11. Hold catheter where it exits the urethra with one hand.

12. Use a washcloth with soap and water to carefully wash around the catheter where it exits the urethra.

13. While holding the catheter, clean around urethra and at least 3-4 inches down the catheter.

30. Wipe the drain with an alcohol wipe AFTER emptying drainage bag. Pick up and discard barrier.
