NEUROLEPTIC DRUGS

ANTI-DEPRESSANT DRUGS

These drugs promote activity of noradrenaline and seratonin, which lead to increase arousal. Side-effect include heart problems. (ex. Prozac)

ATYPICAL NEUROLEPTIC DRUGS

These drugs are a safer and more effective alternative to the practice of maintenance adjunctive treatment with traditional neuroleptic agents in patients with bipolar disorder (ex. CLOZAPINE)

ANXIOLYTIC DRUGS

BENZODIAZEPINES. These drugs act on synapses and neurotrasmitters, especially by promoting GABA, the body's natural form of anxiety relief. GABA reduces seratonin levels, a neurotransmitter related to arousal and aggression. the common side effects of benxodiazepines are sleepiness and dependance

SISTEMATIC DESENSITIZATION

A technique used to treat phobias, designed to produce a decrease in anxiety toward some feared object or situation, by exposing the client to a series of approximations to the anxiety-producing stimulus under relaxed conditions, until finally the anxiety reaction is extinguished

BIOFEEDBACK

A technique that use electronic devices to measure physiological processes such as breathing rate; sli temperature; skin conductance and muscle tension. The goal usually is to change these various physiological processes from a state of nervous arousal to a state of deep relaxation.

Is more affective and interest to many patients and doctors. In many country, the group psychoterapy approach have surpassed the individual approch. many doctors see the group of 8 to 10 patients as optimal, but may vary in size from 3 to 15. Session aree usually weekly or twice mouthy of 1 or 2 hours.

MEDICATION

may be used whit psychotherapy. for many people, this is the best approch to treatment. People with moderate-to-severe depression tipically do best with a combination of antidepressants and some form of psychoterapy.

BEHAVIOR THERAPY

Behavorist suggers that the abnormal and maladaptive behavior can be learned, just like any other behaviors. What can be learned can be unlerned. So effective therapy should aim at madification of bad behavior with classical or operant conditioning techniques

COGNITIVE TERAPHY

Grew out of behaviors therapy because the latter is considerate too inadequate for is focus in external behaviors only. The cognitive approche try to identify and correct thinking patters that may be causes problematic felling and behavior. If a belief or thougt is too rigid, the therapist help the client to modificate his or her thinking

GESTALT THEORY

is based on two ideas: in the first idea the gestalt therapists look at "here and now" ow living. Behiin this idea there are the belief that studing, descriving and observing what is in this moment lets us fully understand ourself. The second idea is that the people are caught in a web of relation with other things, and all the things that exist are in relation with other things. PSYCHOANALYSIS
