Compounds are on the periodic table

False

What is a metal?

Conducts heat and electricity. On the left of the periodic table and middle. Luster, malleable, ductile.

What is a non-metal?

Element that does not conduct heat or electricity, is usually a gas or powdery solid. It is brittle. In upper right corner of periodic table.

What is a Metalloid?

Located in staircase line. Properties of metals and non-metals.

What are physical properties?

Substance. Quantative and Qualitative.

What is Physical change?

Change of state. Can be reversed.

What are the qualitatives?

- Luster
- Malleability

- Ductility

- Optical Clarity

- Viscosity

- Brittleness

- Hardness

- Electral Conductivity

What is Density?

How much mass in a given volume. Units are g/mL or g/cm^3

What is Chemical Property?

When the substance is changed, a new substance is produced.

Which are examples of chemical properties?

Flammability, Acid, Water, Air

Chemical Change can be reversed.

False

Evidence of Chemical change is :

Change of color, Change of odour, Bubble gas forms, a new solid is produced, heat or light is given off.

What is matter?

Anything that takes up space and has mass.

What is the Particle Theory of Matter?

Space between them.
Constant random motion.

Move faster when heated, slower when cooled.

Attract each other.

What are examples of an Alloy?

Bronze, Brass, Solder.

What is an Alloy?

Metal solutions.

What is atomic number?

Number of protons in an atom. Also the atoms total mass.

What is an Isotope?

Atoms with same amount of Protons but different amounts of Neutrons.

How do you find the neutrons in an atom when it is not given?

Atomic Number - Protons

Periods are the horizontal rows on the periodic table.

True

Families are the vertical rows on the periodic table.

True

What are Alkali Metals?

In group 1 of periodic table. Shiny, silvery, and soft. Highly reactive. ex. salt, baking soda, potassium.

What are Alkaline Earth Metals?

All elements in group 2 on periodic table. Shiny, Silvery, not as soft as Alkali Metals. And not as reactive as Alkali Metals. Ex. calcium, fireworks

What are Halogens?

Elements in group 17 of periodic table. Liquids gases, or solids. Very reactive. ex. Chlorine, Halogen.

What are Noble Gases?

In group 18 of the periodic table. Colourless, tasteless, odourless. Glow different colors when an electrical current passes through.
