-not considered people / didn't have rights of other canadians

-there was a lot of racism towards them
-they were paid poorly
-had bad working conditions
-couldn't collectively bargain
-couldn't afford high cost of living
-many went on strike but were treated very badly if they did
-alot of prejudice
-segregation
-were not allowed to marry white people
-kkk was active -burned crosses, violent, intimidated people
-before 1923 they had to pay a head tax to come to canada
-after a1923 they weren't allowed to immigrate here at all
-alot of prejudice against them
-was started to improve socioeconomic situation in maritimes
-they investigated, organized and acted together to make their own cannery and started a fishing cooperative
-they took control of the situation themselves
-get paid well
-better working conditions
-have the right to strike and to have unions
-these workers fought for these things that we have today
