What is cancer?
Cancer is a non-communicable disease where uncontrollable cell division causes tumours to form
How does a cancer form?
-There is damage to the cell causing damage to the dna
-This alters the way the cell division works
-This lead to uncontrolled cells division, creating a tumour
What is a benign tumour?
Slow growing and non-cancerous as they are contained in the membrane and do not spread to other parts of the body
What are malignant tumours?
Fast growing, cancerous, and can easily break off and spread to other parts of the body in the blood stream
What are the risk factors of cancer?
-Smoking carcinogenic chemicals (lung cancer and others)
-Exposure to UV radiation (skin cancer)
-Obesity fat can signal cells to divide
-Viral infection (HPV and cervical cancer)
-Generic mutations in DNA can increase chance of cancer (BRCA gene and breast cancer)
