What is a subject of art?

It's the matter to be described or to be portrayed by the artist that may refer to any person, object, scene or event

To determine subject matter in a particular piece of art, ask yourself:

What is actually depicted in this artwork?

What is the artist trying to express to the world?


What is his or her message? And how are they conveying that message

They are those arts which depict (represent) objects that are commonly recognized by most people.

Representational Art or Objective Art

is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on) in an artificial setting

Still life

is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant, conveying that message

Portraiture (portrait)

any of the landforms such as the volcano, mountain, hill, valley, plain, plateau, cliff, etc.

LANDSCAPE

any of the water forms such as the ocean, sea, river, lake, brook, pond, falls, etc.

SEASCAPE

an aerial view of a city or a portion of it

CITYSCAPE

It is a focused view or interpretation of specific natural elements such as animals, plants, sceneries, etc.

Nature

They are those arts without any reference to anything outside itself (without representation).

It is non-objective because it has no recognizable objects

Non-representational Art or Non- objective Art
